Montagnard Community Coming Together
Montagnard Community Coming Together

Over 130 villagers came together last month to help harvest the cassava crops of Vinh Son 6. Casava (also known as yuca) is a long tuberous starchy root essential to Vietnam. It is steamed, added to sweet dessert soup, and grated and incorporated in baked goods.

Vinh Son 6 and their children benefited from the harvest which was put onto a large truck and taken to a processing company that purchased the cassava by the pound. Five truck loads were purchased and proceeds directly support VSO.

After the harvest was complete, the head Sister of Vinh Son 6 gave two large pigs to the villagers as a thank you for their work in bringing in the harvest. Each family that participated received a portion of the pigs. This was followed by a celebration that was sponsored and supported by Vinh Son 6, the community, and FVSO. Our Board Member Tom Solyst attended both the harvest and the celebration event and was recognized during the celebration. FVSO's financial support of Vinh Son has enabled them to be an active and supportive member of their community.

The local village and VSO have a very supportive relationship and the head Sister is well respected for her support of both the local parish and the village community. This relationship led them to organizing this wonderful community activity supporting VSO.

During the harvest celebration which was held in the community house, the sisters of VSO, the village members, and the parish head priest were all honored. Both the village leader and the head priest spoke at the event thanking and honoring all the participants for their contributions. Celebratory food was prepared by the village and was enjoyed over music, dancing, and volleyball games.

Thank you for your continued support of FVSO that enables this beautiful collaboration within the local community.
